How the Bible Teaches us to Stop & Rest
There are many seasons of life that tend to be busy and stressful. Sometimes, it feels like every season consists of this. A lot of people associate being busy with being valuable, but it’s quite the opposite. In many situations in the Bible, Jesus reminds us of the importance of stopping and taking a moment to rest.
“It takes courage to say yes to rest and play in a culture where exhaustion is seen as a status symbol.” -Brene Brown.
Allowing yourself to slow down can be difficult - but it is something that becomes essential to our everyday lives. The Bible calls us to rest and free ourselves from the burden of busyness and anxieties:
“Come to me all who are weary and heavy-laden and I will give you rest” - Matthew 11:28
We are able to come to Jesus and lay our burdens onto his shoulders where he will give us true rest in return. This place of sanctuary allows us to become spiritually vulnerable in order to grow our relationship with the Lord.
